When his step-daughter decided to go through his old memoribilia, she found out that Pat used to be Stripesy, sidekick to the original Star Spangled Kid, Sylvester Pemberton. She also found Sylvester's cosmic converter belt and used it to become the new Star Spangled Kid.
Pat didn't want to see Courtney in the constant danger that he as a mystery man had had been in. So with some help, he created an 8 foot tall robotic suit that that he called S.T.R.I.P.E.. With it, he took on the role of sidekick again trying to protect his stepdaughter and talk her out of being the super-heroine that she has choosen to be.
His constant attempts at getting her to go in to early retirement have fallen on deaf ears and made her even more convinced to be the best Star Spangled Kid she can be. In fact, she tries to get him to quit as much as he tries to get her to stop being a super-heroine. He never revealed that he is S.T.R.I.P.E. but Courtney knew by his condescending tone. Just to spite him, Court refuses to call him anything but Stripesy!
