Welcome to Snarfy's Halfling Hole!

Okay People! Work it! No Pain No Gain!

As you knows, we train our statistics by spending TDP's. Some things cost us more to train. Some things cost us less. Below there is a Chart that spells it all outs for you.

A + sign means it costs us the basic rate plus a penalty of x (where x is a number).
A - sign means it costs the basic rate minus a non-penalty (actually a bonus)of x (where x is a number).
A 0 (zero) means there is no penalty or bonus in this Statistic for us.
In other words train a skill with a +2 modifier mean it will cost the basic rate, Plus 2 times the basic rate.

Us Olvi folk are the shortest race in DragonRealms.
Our small size makes building Strength a real chore, and we pay accordingly in TDP's.
Our natural curiosity also impedes our rate of learning Wisdom and Discipline.
However, we do have above average Stamina and Reflexes, and we have the best Agility of all the races.

As a special note, while no profession has a minimum requirement for Discipline, Certain folks (Magic users) will want a high Discipline in order to increase their ability to Concentrate, which increases their Harness Ability.
Fighters and guilds which require Survival skills will want high Discipline as it increases their maximum Fatigue, which determines how long they can fight.

Let's take a look at the ten professions and see how we might fit into them.

The Barbarians study weapons first and foremost.
To become a Barbarian, you need to have the following:
10 in Strength [+2]
5 in Reflexes [-1]
5 in Agility [-2]
4 in Charisma [0]
6 in Wisdom [+1]
6 in Intelligence [0]
9 in Stamina [-1]
An Olvi Barbarian needs to be Strong and have good Stamina.
They also need to be Agile and have good Reflexes since they are always hunting so much.

The Bards are Lore users most of all. They also work on magic and weapons.
The average Bard is a jack-of-all-trades and master of few. They have a tough time learning survival skills, like Hiding, Stealing or Stalking, but boy-o-boy they sure do play good music!
To become a Bard, you need to have the following:
8 in Strength [+2]
6 in Reflexes [-1]
8 in Agility [-2]
6 in Charisma [0]
7 in Wisdom [+1]
7 in Intelligence [0]
8 in Stamina [-1]
Since the Bards primary skill-set is Lore, we need be Wise and Intelligent.
We should also show a bit of Discipline when it comes to practicing magic and learning our music lessons.
Since Bards are also fighters they need good Stamina, and they need to be Agile as well.

The Clerics are the holy men and women of the Realms and their primary skill set is Magic.
Besides the Paladins, the Clerics defend life in the Realms by working on behalf of the forces of good. They are capable of resurrecting the dead and restoring memories that are lost as a result of dying.
To become a Cleric, you need to have the following:
6 in Strength [+2]
7 in Reflexes [-1]
7 in Agility [-2]
5 in Charisma [0]
8 in Wisdom [+1]
8 in Intelligence [0]
7 in Stamina [-1]
To be a Cleric we must be Wise and Intelligent. Since Clerics study Magic primarily we also have to be quite Disciplined.
Keep in mind that Clerics are also fighters so we have to be Strong and have a good deal of Stamina as well.

The Empaths are the healers of others. They cannot hunt or kill, but they continuously place themselves in mortal danger by going into hunting areas to heal people.
Always Support your Local Empath.
The Empath's primary skill is Lore.
To become an Empath, you need to have the following:
5 in Strength [+2]
5 in Reflexes [-1]
5 in Agility [-2]
6 in Charisma [0]
9 in Wisdom [+1]
9 in Intelligence [0]
10 in Stamina [-1]
Because Empaths study Lore they need to be Wise and Intelligent.
Empaths also practice some Magic so they must be fairly Disciplined.
Because healing people can be so exhausting they need to have very good Stamina also.

The Moon Mages are rumored to be slightly insane and can induce Visions to see into the future.
They study Magic first and foremost.
To become a Moon Mage, you need to have the following:
6 in Strength [+2]
5 in Reflexes [-1]
7 in Agility [-2]
7 in Charisma [0]
9 in Wisdom [+1]
8 in Intelligence [0]
6 in Stamina [-1]
Because Moon Mages are primarily Magic users they require very good Discipline. Also they need good Intelligence and Wisdom. MM's who like to hunt will also need good Strength and Stamina.

The Paladins are Holy Knights.
They are sworn to lead and defend people in battle and willingly place themselves in harms way every chance they get.
:::Snarfy makes a circling motion with one finger by his ear:::
The primary skill set for Paladins is Armor and they also have a Secondary skill set of Lore with special emphasis on Teaching.
To become a Paladin, you need to have the following:
9 in Strength [+2]
6 in Reflexes [-1]
6 in Agility [-2]
8 in Charisma [0]
7 in Wisdom [+1]
7 in Intelligence [0]
7 in Stamina [-1]
This is another situation in which we can do well, given the proper training. Paladins wear some heavy armor, so we need to be Strong and have good Stamina. Paladins are also Teachers so they need to be Wise and Intelligent. Since they are natural leaders they need to be very Charismatic as well. Paladins are Magic users so being well Disciplined is a good thing.

The Rangers are those who choose to spend their lives in the Woods, both taking from and giving to, nature.
They are designed to exist in the wilderness, studying survival first and foremost.
They can temporarily become lost and have trouble learning if they spend too much time in a large town.
To become a Ranger, you need to have the following:
8 in Strength [+2]
7 in Reflexes [-1]
8 in Agility [-2]
6 in Charisma [0]
6 in Wisdom [+1]
7 in Intelligence [0]
8 in Stamina [-1]
As Rangers, we need to be Strong, Agile, and have good Stamina.
Since Rangers also practice a little Magic, they need to be Disciplined.

Thieves are part of life in DragonRealms. They actually provide a valued service. If not for the lowly Thief, We would all be mere Serf's to the Trader's Ruling class.
They study survival first and foremost like Rangers, however they learn to survive on the streets of the towns and in fact can become lost and have difficulty learning when out in the wilderness for too long.
You may hear them spoken of as "City Rangers" because the two guilds are so similar in what they are taught.
To become a Thief, you need to have the following:
8 in Strength [+2]
9 in Reflexes [-1]
9 in Agility [-2]
5 in Charisma [0]
6 in Wisdom [+1]
7 in Intelligence [0]
8 in Stamina [-1]
As Thieves, we must have good Reflexes and be very Agile. Having good Stamina is will help as well.
These traits come in handy for uhhh ... <cough> picking up spare change in a crowd, and running for exercise.

The Traders are travelers, wearily trudging all over the known Realms in search of profit.
They travel from town to town, delivering supplies.
They study lore and, to protect themselves on the roads, study survival and armor as well.
To become a Trader, you need to have the following:
5 in Strength [+2]
5 in Reflexes [-1]
5 in Agility [-2]
9 in Charisma [0]
9 in Wisdom [+1]
9 in Intelligence [0]
7 in Stamina [-1]
Because Traders have to know a good bargain when the see one, they need to be Intelligent, and Wise. They also need to be Charismatic as it helps when dealing with merchants. Following Caravans all over requires Discipline as well as Stamina. Traders are not very good hunters so they don't require a great deal of Strength, but if you intend to hunt, you won't want to ignore your weight training.
That reminds me of a joke... "How does an Olvi gain Strength? A Tankard at a time!" <G>

Warrior Mages are wizards. They control the elements and seem to enjoy casting lightning spells in wet areas. They are strong fighters and their primary skill is weapons.
To become a Warrior Mage, you need to have the following:
7 in Strength [+2]
5 in Reflexes [-1]
7 in Agility [-2]
5 in Charisma [0]
9 in Wisdom [+1]
9 in Intelligence [0]
6 in Stamina [-1]
Because WM's Are Fighters first, they need to have good Stamina and some Strength as well.
Because they are magic users they need to be well Disciplined, Intelligent, and show enough Wisdom to not cast Lightning spells in wet areas!

Although we can survive in any Guild if we are willing to work at it, there are some restrictions on the guilds themselves that can make life difficult for us.
